Accounting Definition

Accounting is the measurement, processing, and communication of financial information systems such as businesses and companies. It is one of the key functions for almost any business or company. Accounting may be handled by a bookkeeper and an accountant. The history of accounting is thousands of years old and can be traced to ancient civilizations. Modern accounting was established by the Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli in the year 1494.
